<p>&#8216;Living the Dream&#8217; is a phrase that can be applied to numerous lifestyles and is as wide open as the human spirit.  The only requirements we assign are that it is done with <em>passion</em> and <em>purpose</em>.  Vellore certainly has both.  He told us, &#8220;It&#8217;s about the challenge, the goal, knowing that I will push my body and mind to their limits.  It&#8217;s not the fighting, it&#8217;s the growing.&#8221;  Pushing the limits is something he knows well, having undergone vegan dietary plans and strict workout regimens.  For him it&#8217;s a necessity, not just because he will be tested at the highest levels in the <a title="Vellore Knock Out" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uz6P3ly_oUI" target="_blank">ring</a>, but because he is a <a title="Vellore Teaching Cut Kick" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&amp;feature=endscreen&amp;v=yGw6g6-okf8" target="_blank">teacher of our youth</a> and thus a role model.  He takes his role and life seriously, yet carries a light-hearted and smile filled attitude everywhere he goes.  Vellore isn&#8217;t chasing his dream, he&#8217;s living it, and most importantly he&#8217;s teaching other people how to do the same.  &#8221;Watching my students break barriers, conquer fears, or do something they never thought possible, man, that&#8217;s my daily reward.  I guess you could say that&#8217;s how I&#8217;m living my dreams out every day,&#8221; Caballero finished.  Yeah, we&#8217;re a proud sponsor, most definitely.</p>

<p>The New York Civil Liberties Union has released a so-called &#8220;Stop and Frisk Watch&#8221; application for smart phones, enabling persons to record and submit video and audio of encounters with authorities.  Backers of the application say it is intended to reduce the amount of racial or other targeted stops where police are essentially profiling and frisking to see if they &#8220;get lucky&#8221;.  More on the group and application can be found <a title="Application Link" href="http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/06/08/12124572-app-records-reports-controversial-police-stop-and-frisk-practice?lite" target="_blank">here</a>.</p>
<p>The discussion got us thinking about patients and their encounters with Colorado and local law enforcement, a topic getting even more squishy with the advancements of an <a title="MMJ Patient Tracking System" href="http://blogs.westword.com/latestword/2012/06/medical_marijuana_patient_tracking_program_private_meeting.php" target="_blank">electronic tracking system</a>.  The officials cite their intent to use the system only after they have reason, and never for creating &#8220;cause&#8221; to search or investigate, but we&#8217;ve all heard bureaucratic promises before.  Who in Colorado will build, or utilize, a police tracking system like the NYCLU has done?  If such an application existed, would you use it during traffic stops?  Would you be afraid of police retaliation if they saw you using it?</p>

<p>The core mantra here at GDHS is &#8220;Dream Big &amp; Live It&#8221;, and we breathe life into the expression every single day.  There are countless ways to adopt this message and make it a part of your personal life, but we wanted to share a quick story of someone we admire who showed us, by example, just what it really means.  This is Sara Rosenfeld Johnson, a speech language pathologist dedicated to working with special needs children around the world.  She&#8217;s been pioneering her trade for decades and paddling upstream, often by herself, since day one.  While in graduate school at Columbia, Sara asked a professor for reference materials and resources that could assist her in practicing therapy with the children she was seeing at various school districts, most of them very high needs.  Her professor explained no such materials existed and suggested maybe she could write &#8220;that book&#8221;.  She did.</p>

<p>The process wasn&#8217;t easy &#8211; she was continually told it couldn&#8217;t be done.  The timing wasn&#8217;t the best &#8211; she was a woman in academics and science in the 70&#8242;s.  The deck was stacked against her &#8211; she didn&#8217;t have a team and didn&#8217;t have funding for research.  Yet the <em>dream</em> existed and she, and her family, decided they were going to <em>live it</em>.</p>
<p>More than three decades later Sara finds herself the founder and owner of an amazing brand <em>TalkTools</em> where she has, at some point, employed all of her family and published countless books.  She has worked with thousands of children, taught thousands of therapists and parents her techniques, and has traveled the world.  The picture below is from a recent event where Sara was invited to China for a rare opportunity to interface with new therapists who will be treating the recently open and accessible special needs population.  With one of the largest populations on Earth, this will be no small undertaking.  She recently said, &#8220;TalkTools Therapy has been designated by the Chinese government as <em>the</em> technique which will be used in the new rehabilitation clinics which are opening all over China. This decision was made after they used the techniques in two locations for six months and saw significant progress in both feeding skills and speech clarity for children with the diagnoses of Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and Autism.&#8221; From Sara we would expect nothing less.</p>

<p>It seems every year around this time we see a lot of fast-paced legislative actions and agendas and this year ]]></description>

<p>It seems every year around this time we see a lot of fast-paced legislative actions and agendas and this year is no different.  Nationally, three congress(wo)men have introduced an amendment to a bill being debated that would effectively cut off funding for the Department of Justice to perform medical marijuana raids in legally permitting states.  You can read more about the bill/amendment and how you can take action <a title="Huffington Post" href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/08/farr-hinchey-rohrabacher-funding-medical-marijuana_n_1501171.html">here</a>.</p>
<p>At the same time, Colorado was coming to a vote of the so-called &#8220;Per Se DUID Bill&#8221; regarding the 5 nanogram of THC limit for driving impaired rule.  In an akward and ugly turn, though favorable for the industry, the Republican controlled House decided to close the legislative session early to avoid having to vote on a Colorado Gay Rights to Civil Unions Bill.  The closure left 30 bills scheduled for vote out in the cold, including the DUID bill.  For now, Colorado MMJ patients retain their rights to prove their level of alleged intoxication in a court of law in front of a jury of their peers, as it should be.</p>
<p>Update 5/15/2012: After a few days of worry that the “Per Se DUID Bill” would be passed in the special legislative session the measure has once again been tabled.  There was concern that a Republican controlled Congress would pass the measure but when Nancy Spence (R) decided to carry on with her vacation plans despite the special session the vote ended in a tie.  So once again, for now, Colorado MMJ patients retain their rights to prove their level of alleged intoxication in a court of law in front of a jury of their peers.</p>

<p>This is a look at our new version of the ever popular indica strain, Pre-98 Bubba Kush.  While in many ways it reminds us of our traditional Bubba, the structure is a bit less dense and the effects are slightly less narcotic.  This means that it carries heavy pain relief and relaxation aspects, but won&#8217;t necessarily force you into a premature slumber.  Smell and taste are still top notch, carrying the full &#8220;dark&#8221; bouquet Bubba lovers know well.</p>
